(The bulletin will contain portions of the Diocesan handbook about finances. There will be small paragraphs printed in the bulletin each week until the entire book has be included.) What rights do members of a parish have? Membership in a parish begins with baptism. With membership come certain rights, namely, the right to the Word, sacraments, education and pastoral care. What obligations do members of a parish have? Members of a parish have the obligation to support education and programs for evangelization, worship and works of charity, the upkeep of parish
buildings and grounds, just wages for parish employees and support of the clergy. The parish cannot exist without the financial support of its members. What are the Bishop’s rights and obligations regarding the material goods of a parish? According to the law of the Church, it is the responsibility of the Bishop to supervise carefully the administration of all the goods which belong to parishes which are subject to him. It is his responsibility to see to the organization of the entire administration of the parish’s goods by issuing instructions in accord with the laws of the Church.

     COMMITTEE MEETING
The Festival Committee will meet Tuesday, August 26th at 6:30PM in St. Francis Hall. All members are encouraged to attend.
     NEW VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED
WE NEED YOU! We have many “sit-down” jobs that need to be filled, as well as a variety of other jobs, so if you can sit and sell chances or food tickets, please sign up on the sheets in the back of the Churches. If you need to change your job or your shift, please call the rectory or use the sign up sheet. We will do our best to accommodate you. The final day to sign up is THIS Sunday, August 17th.
     DONATIONS FOR BASKET OF CHEER
Monetary donations are needed for the Basket of Cheer. A basket will be put together with strictly Irish Items. Please put your donation in the collection basket in a marked envelope. So far donations total $110.00. Thank you for your generosity.
     BEER FOR IRISH FESTIVAL
Again this year the Church will be providing the beer for the Irish Festival. We need approximately 18 halves at a cost of $ 80.00 each. We are hoping that perhaps some individuals in the Parishes would be willing to donate the cost of a half. This would help to keep our expenses down and our profit up. If you want to make a donation, you can place it in a marked
envelope in the collection basket. Currently we have (6) halves donated; only 12 more to go!
     OTHER DONATIONS
Donations for food and other items are needed. If you would like to donate anything to the Festival, it would be appreciated. If you have questions, please call the rectory at 553-2288.
     FLIERS
Irish Festival Fliers are available in the back of the Churches. Please take some with you and place them in businesses that you frequent and “around town” to help us advertise the Festival.
CHOIR PRACTICE FOR THE IRISH FESTIVAL
Many voices are needed to make a beautiful choir. All are invited and encouraged to attend. The date and time for the next practice will be announced at Masses this weekend.

Weekly Stewardship Report

LIFELINES
The causes that lead to such painful decisions as abortion are of course many and complex. If, on the one hand, … the Church never tires of reaffirming that the sacred value of every human being’s life originates in the Creator’s plan, on the other hand, she encourages the promotion of every initiative in support of woman and families in order to create the favorable conditions in which to welcome life, and the protection of the family institution founded on the marriage between a man and a women. Not only has permitting recourse to the termination of pregnancy not solved the problems that afflict many women and a fair number of families, but it has also made another wound in our society, unfortunately, already burdened by deep suffering.
- Pope Benedict XVI, Address to the Members of Italy’s Pro-Life Movement, May 12, 2008

Parking at St. Francis
For those attending Mass at St. Francis in Friendsville - you can park next to the church on the lower side towards the rectory, you can park in the rectory yard and driveway. You can also park across the road from the church, but this land does not belong to the church and the owners want only one row of cars parked next to the road. We gently ask you to adhere to this so that we don't' lose parking privileges completely.
