UPDATE
ON ST. JOSEPH CHURCH CLOSING
The committee for the
closing of St Joseph Church has met many times and would like to update
the parish of the happenings.
Sunday, July 18, 2010
at 3:00PM will be the Closing Mass with Rev. Gregory Reichlen as celebrant.
Along with Mass will be, Homily, music and Closing Prayers and the ritual
of locking St Joseph Church and procession with the Eucharist to St Francis
Xavier Church. Following Mass there will be a catered dinner at St. John
Neumann Hall. We are trying to make the dinner special but affordable.
A journal of history and pictorial book is being prepared. This book will
be available to all who make a paid reservation to attend the dinner. Put
this date on your calendar to come and be a part of this memorable occasion.
Share sorrow and joy with your fellow parishioners. Watch for more details
to follow. |
November 29, 2009:
New Parish
Name
We have finally been given our New
Parish Name. Beginning July 1, 2010 our combined parishes will be known
as ST. BRIGID’S PARISH. This name is the “old Irish” spelling of
St. Brigid of Ireland. |

New Parish News - April 2, 2009
New Parish
Name
Please continue to submit new parish name suggestions. If you have
a Saint in mind, put a note in the collection basket. Written suggestions
should include the reasons why the Saint would make a good intercessor
and protector for our Parish. The Bishop wants our suggestions soon. Watch
for the paper Joyce Barnum is preparing for the parish.
Team Makes
Statement
The Tuesday implementation team meeting on March 31 included making
a "rough draft" of a "Visions and Values Statement" as required by the
Implementation Guide for Called to Holiness and Mission. Eventually the
statement will reflect the values and core beliefs of our New Parish.

Implementation
Team Committee Meeting
March 10,
2009 Friendsville PA
Sorrow Polishes
the Mirror of Joy
Mr. Frank Conboy is gathering together several dedicated members to shoulder
the great responsibility of planning the final Liturgy, which is also the
Anniversary Mass, at St. Patrick’s Church. A final date has yet to be determined.
Although the closings of St. Joseph and St. Thomas are definite, no dates
have been set, nor
have Parish
Final Liturgy Committees formed. As Deacon Ken states, “There should be
time for the community to reflect on the past.” Yet, we should note that
all must be accomplished before July 2010.
In addition, Father Gerry and Father Cas are working on a new Mass schedule.
Keep in mind that the needs of the larger parish have to be balanced by
the needs of the Parish Priest.
Obedience
In light of
the absolute necessity of change in Our Parish, the implementation team
is continuing to make progress on the Bishop’s Directives. It is written
in the directives, “Although some people would absolutely prefer to leave
well enough alone, the Bishop explained why this is not feasible.” “Unfortunately,”
he said,” many of our institutions are not ‘well enough.’ Our society and
our Diocese are experiencing changes. Populations are shifting. Financial
resources are diminishing. Many Catholics are not actively practicing their
faith or supporting the Church. Our Priests are serving too many parishes
at one time. “Because Our Parish wants to preserve our Priest, we submit
to our Bishop whom God has lovingly placed in authority over us.
Section 895
of the Catholic Catechism explains, ”The power which (Our Bishop)
exercise(s)
personally in the name of Christ, is proper, ordinary, and immediate…controlled
by the supreme authority of the Church.”
More Information

Parish, Holy Name of Mary (HNM) in Montrose, will be sharing
information

share lay
ministry as we are Linking with HNM.
